'OnlyFans' creators are creators too
I never really thought of them as legit 'creators' till I heard some of the success stories coming out of the platform like "Amouranth"
So I’ve honestly never used the site ‘OnlyFans’ but have heard a ton about it. But to be honest i’d never really thought of the folks on there as ‘creators’ till this year.
So what has changed to make this type of creator more legit?
Well some of the creators are really making a ton of money.
But even more than that… they are transcending just the Only Fans platform.
For example “Amouranth”, who is actually Kaitlyn Sigarusa.
She went from OnlyFans to being the most-watched female streamer on Kick to investing in gas stations and 7-Elevens to selling fart jars and bath water to her fans.
Right now she’s making $1 million per month just on OnlyFans.
I mean.. that is just crazy. I knew OnlyFans was a thing but did not think people were making that kind of money on there.
She also just left Twitch to sign exclusively with Kick, a deal worth an estimated $40m. I mean that is crazy.
And she’s also on Tiktok and Youtube. Reportedly also earning another $200k a month off that.
So now back to the explosion of OnlyFans
OnlyFans users spent a reported $5.6 billion on the platform in 2022, which is up from $4.8 billion in 2021.
The number of creators hit 3.2 million in 2022, which is up 47% from 2.2 million in 2021.
So as you can see its also getting more competitive as the number of people trying to eat from the pie is getting bigger than the pie itself.
The number of fans increased 27% from 188 million in 2021 to 238.8 million in 2022. These numbers are staggering. Shows you just how big this quasi-porn game is.
And perhaps most importantly, the company’s profit was $404m in 2022. So they are printing cash.
Also important to note how they are killing all the other ‘creator platforms’ out there as you see in the chart above.
How the OnlyFans platform works
Basically creators make money through subscriptions, paid direct messaging, tips, and pay-per-view content.
And basically the platform takes a 20% cut of whatever the creators earn.
Plus.. you’re now starting to see the second level of platform services as you see in robust ecosystems like Youtube.
In that you see established OnlyFans creators offering paid marketing services to others or helping coach others on how to succeed on the platform.
How do Creators Promote themselves on OnlyFans
So perhaps one of the most interesting things about the platform that I didn’t really know till I dove in a bit was how creators promote themselves.
And the reality is that a lot of their promotion happens on other channels like Twitter, Tiktok, and Reddit.
Twitter actually drove 75% of the social media traffic to OnlyFans in the US last year. And here I thought it was this platform where grumpy tech dudes argued with one another.
And actually there’s a lot of ‘quasi-celebs’ that are on OnlyFans these days
Now I don’t really know these folks below but i’m guessing they are somewhat legit in the UK.
But it turns out if you’re like a B or C-list actress or actor… now you don’t have to wait tables in LA anymore. You just hit the gym and start growing your OnlyFans profile.
The thing that I find interesting about this whole thing is how it is following the same ecosystem dynamics of other major social media platforms like Youtube, Tiktok and Twitter.
Perhaps even more so as the earning potential seems to be far greater as your followers are willing to open their pockets much faster.
Can’t wait to see how this whole thing evolves as I think this platform will perhaps have one of the biggest impacts on society.
